As a child, I was a member of the Young Ornithologist’s Club, and loved studying the images in the club’s ‘Bird Life’ magazine. I have never lost this fascination with watching these feathered creatures.
I have a terrible memory for bird names so have decided not to worry about identification and instead concentrate on capturing their unique characters on camera.

Peering through the viewfinder to frame images of animals, I can at times feel uncomfortably like a member of the paparazzi. Eyes gaze back at me, with implicit question.
I often find myself saying ‘Thank you’ to them after taking the shot.
We don’t get many flowers in the desert harshness of central Australia. Those that do burst into bloom after the rains are usually tiny. That’s how I got into macro photography. I think of my macro florals as ‘nature in your face’ whether I am shooting local or other specimens.
Update: Having moved to Albany in Australia’s south west there is a massive amount of flora.
These photographs capture my experiences of encountering these strange and powerful places.
I look forward to exploring more of Australia’s shores.

“What a lovely view!”
Family holidays were frequently punctuated by this comment from my parents. As a child I often found landscapes rather dull. Of course as I’ve reached more mature years I’ve recognised the power of the spectacular vistas our world offers.
I love the challenge of trying to recreate the feeling of experiencing such splendour.
Australian skies are big. I mean really big.
Central Australian skies are often clear so clouds or other events are quite a treat.
These are objects that fascinate me for some reason or other.
Having lived mainly in small towns the scale and activity of cities is almost overwhelming at times. I find myself wandering around in awe and only occasionally do I remember to lift my camera.
I am an accredited drone operator with a fear of heights! I do however love the drama and almost abstract quality of seeing the world from a bird’s eye view.
The lack of light pollution in central Australia offers wonderful opportunities for photographing the night sky.
Macro photography has always been a fun challenge. Most of mine are in the Flora section but a few abstracts plus other bits and bobs will be appearing here.
I’ve had a lot of fun using various macro techniques to create these miniature worlds.
